ABSTRACT
This study attempts to measure the changes of open innovation before and after corporate IPO. It introduces a new concept
to measure open innovation using patent information to enhance the ideas of the width and depth dimensions of open
innovation. Based on a review of related literature, three open innovation measures are used: ratio of open innovation
(ROI), intensity of open innovation (IOI), and total level of open innovation (TOI). These measures are applied to
compare open innovation levels among companies in the Seoul Digital Complex (SDC) in Korea and to analyse the effects
of open innovation on company performance.
